EAST POINT, Ga. — Before the biscuits, before the brunch crowds, and before Eat My Biscuits became one of East Point’s most recognizable brunch destinations, there was a dream that spent years in the making.

Today, Atlanta Local’s Mike sat down with Eat My Biscuits owner Vanetta Roy for a pre-interview conversation ahead of an upcoming feature series that will take readers behind the scenes of her entrepreneurial journey, the story behind her restaurant, and what’s next for the growing East Point business.

One thing became clear almost immediately: Eat My Biscuits wasn’t built overnight.

A Dream Years in the Making

Originally from Chicago, Roy spent more than 20 years as a public school teacher before relocating to the Atlanta area during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While many businesses begin with a spur-of-the-moment leap, Roy took a different approach.

She spent nearly three years intentionally planning every step of her business—developing her business plan, securing funding, working with investors, and making sure the foundation was in place before opening the restaurant’s doors.

That same intentionality can still be seen throughout the business today.

The Story Behind Eat My Biscuits

The restaurant’s memorable name has a story of its own.

Long before opening a restaurant, Roy had built a reputation among friends and family for making biscuits that everyone wanted.

Before long, she joked that she had “everybody eating my biscuits,” and the phrase eventually became the inspiration for the brand.

Today, that playful personality continues throughout the restaurant, from creatively named menu items to signature cocktails that keep guests blushing while never losing sight of what matters most: serving great food and creating an experience people remember.

Building Through Challenges

Like many small business owners, Roy’s journey has also come with challenges.

During construction in downtown East Point, business slowed significantly as many potential customers mistakenly believed the restaurant had closed.

It was a difficult season, but one that reinforced the importance of community support for locally owned businesses.

A Vision Beyond Brunch

Looking ahead, Roy’s vision extends beyond serving great brunch.

She hopes to introduce even more East Point residents to Eat My Biscuits, continue growing the restaurant’s merchandise, and deepen the restaurant’s connection to the community it proudly calls home.

That vision is where Atlanta Local comes in.

Atlanta Local and Eat My Biscuits Join Forces

Following today’s conversation, Atlanta Local and Eat My Biscuits have begun developing a community-focused campaign designed to introduce more East Point residents to one of the city’s most unique brunch destinations.

The initiative aims to celebrate local entrepreneurship, encourage residents to support a hometown business, and create new opportunities for neighbors to connect over great food.

Around Atlanta, people already know Eat My Biscuits.

Now it’s time to make sure all of East Point does too.

The Beginning of a New Series

This article marks the beginning of a new series following Vanetta Roy and Eat My Biscuits.

In the coming weeks, Atlanta Local will share more of her entrepreneurial journey while unveiling the community campaign designed to help more East Point residents discover—and fall in love with—one of their own neighborhood businesses.
